Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Adityanath has asked the farmers of the state to focus on crops other than sugarcane as excessive production of sugar leads to more consumption, and consequently, to diabetes. Adityanath gave this suggestion to the farmers on Tuesday while addressing a gathering in Baghpat, which is known for its bumper sugarcane produce.

“Farmers should try to focus on growing other crops like vegetables rather than just growing sugarcane. Excessive production of sugar also leads to more consumption which, in turn, causes diabetes. You (farmers) are growing too much sugarcane today,” Adityanath said.

Addressing the issue of dues of the farmers, CM Adityanath said, “The remaining 10,000 crore of the sugarcane farmers will be cleared very soon by the sugar mills. If they (sugar mills) don’t clear the sugarcane farmers’ dues by October 15, they will have to face the consequences. We have made all the required arrangements in order to clear the dues.”

The clearance of dues has been a concern for the BJP government in the state as it recently lost the Kairana bypoll to an RLD candidate by 44,000 votes, in which the pending dues was one of the most important points. Now, with its focus on the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is in no mood to face the ire of the sugarcane farmers and has accelerated the process of clearing the dues of worth Rs 10,000 crore.

New Delhi (PTI): Over 13,000 teaching positions are vacant in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) across the country, the Ministry of Education informed the Lok Sabha on Monday.

The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary in response to a written question.

"A total of 8,618 and 5,083 teaching posts are lying vacant in KVs and JNVs, respectively. Vacancies keep on arising due to opening of new schools, retirement, resignation, promotion of employees, transfer, employees going on lien to another department and upgradation of schools," Chaudhary said.

"Filling up of vacancies is a continuous process and efforts are made to fill up the vacancies as per the provisions of the relevant recruitment rules of KVs and NVs," he added.

The minister noted that teachers are also engaged on contractual basis for temporary duration by KVs and NVs to ensure that the teaching-learning process is not hampered.

"Efforts are made to recruit regular teachers at the earliest so that interest of students does not suffer. The consistently high percentage results achieved by KVs and NVs over the years clearly demonstrate that academic standards and students’ performance are duly maintained and are not compromised," he said.
