New Delhi: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), headed by senior lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, has raised concerns over recent modifications at the Supreme Court, including changes to its emblem and the statue of Lady Justice. The SCBA claims it was not consulted about these alterations and questions the rationale behind them.

In a resolution, the SCBA expressed disappointment over a proposed museum at a location where they had requested a cafe for lawyers. Despite objections, construction for the museum has commenced.

The changes to the Lady Justice statue, which include the removal of her blindfold and the replacement of her sword with a copy of the Constitution, have drawn criticism from the bar association. The Supreme Court explains that the blindfold’s removal symbolises that law in India is not blind but sees everyone equally, while the sword was replaced as it is viewed as a symbol of violence.

The SCBA has unanimously opposed the proposed museum and reiterated its demand for a library and cafe for the bar’s members.
