Supreme Court refuses to entertain pleas seeking deferment or cancellation of NEET exam
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a batch of pleas seeking deferment or cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scheduled for September 13.
A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan said that authorities will take all necessary steps for conducting the NEET-undergraduate exam amid the COVID-19 pandemic for admission in medical courses.
Sorry, we are not inclined to entertain, the bench said.
The apex court had on September 4 dismissed petitions, including the one filed by ministers of six opposition-ruled states, seeking review of its August 17 order which had paved the way for holding NEET and JEE exams.

HC rejects Mahesh Shetty Thimarody’s plea challenging externment
Bengaluru: The High Court has rejected the application filed by activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody challenging Puttur Assistant Commissioner’s externment order sending him out of Dakshina Kannada district.
Puttur AC Stella Varghese had issued the order, externing Shetty to Manvi taluk of Raichur district on March 13, 2026.
Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum, who earlier heard the plea filed by Shetty and kept the judgment pending, said on Thursday that the activist’s application was being rejected.
Stating that the petition was invalid, the judge clarified that the activist could file an application challenging the order with the Home Secretary. He also directed the state government not to take any action in connection with the case for two weeks.
A detailed version of the verdict, however, is awaited.
