Teacher arrested for sexually harassing student in UP, school sealed due to 'irregularities'
Muzaffarnagar (UP) (PTI): A teacher has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a 16-year-old student at a private school here, police said on Thursday.
The education department has sealed the school in the Budhana police station area due to "irregularities". The school had permission to enrol students up to class 8 but was also running classes 9 and 10, according to officials.
The accused teacher, Shehzad (35), was arrested on Wednesday under sections 74 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 75 (sexual harassment) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Budhana Circle Officer Gajendra Pal Singh told reporters.
The education department has sealed the school.
Education department officials said the school was sealed due to "irregularities" and an investigation has been ordered into these.
It was found that the school had permission to enrol students up to class 8 but it was illegally running classes 9 and 10, the officials said.

Man killed in flat ceiling plaster crash, wife and son hurt
Thane (PTI): A 45-year-old man was killed, and his wife and son were injured when a portion of plaster from the ceiling collapsed in their flat in a seven-storey building in Thane on Saturday, officials said.
Chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell, Yasin Tadvi, said the 16-year-old building is not listed in the "dangerous" category.
"The incident occurred in Karumdev Society at about 3 am. The plaster of the hall in a flat on the terrace floor suddenly fell while the occupants were asleep", he said.
Of the four people who were inside the room, two suffered minor injuries and were discharged after primary treatment, Tadvi stated.
The injured persons were identified as Arpita More (42), who suffered minor head injuries, and her son Arush More (16), who sustained injuries to both legs.
Manoj More (45), who sustained chest injuries, died during treatment at a private hospital.
