Hyderabad: The Telangana Police's Cyber Security Bureau arrested three individuals on Wednesday for illegally acquiring and selling mobile phones to cybercriminals. A total of 4,000 mobile phones were seized during the operation.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Shamim, Abdul Salam, and Mohammad Iftikhar, were arrested in the Peddapalli district based on credible intelligence. Along with the phones, three bikes and three bags containing the mobile devices were also recovered.

According to police officials, the trio had been purchasing old mobile phones from locals in Telangana at low prices. They then refurbished these phones and transported them to Bihar, where they were sold to cybercriminals in regions like Jamtara and Deoghar in Jharkhand, known for being hubs of online scams.

The seized phones were reportedly used in various cybercrimes, after which the police registered a case against the accused under the Information Technology Act and other relevant laws.

This operation follows a similar bust in May when Telangana Police recovered 713 stolen mobile phones from a gang involved in cell phone thefts.
