New Delhi: With opposition to the controversial new movie ‘The Kerala Story’ continuing, Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor criticized the movie that is set for release on May 5.

The MP, tweeted on Sunday on his account, “It may be your Kerala story. It is not our Kerala story.”

The movie produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in the lead roles, reports NDTV.

‘The Kerala Story’ is being severely criticized by leaders of the CPI(M), the Congress and also the DYFI in Kerala, as its trailer claims that 32,000 girls from the state, who had gone missing, joined the terrorist group ISIS.

VD Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly, on Saturday demanded that the movie be denied permission for screening. “The film falsely claims that 32,000 women from Kerala were converted and became members of the Islamic State. The movie should not be granted permission for screening, with the trailer clearly showing what the film intends to say,” Satheesan said in a Facebook post.

He also said that it was not an issue of freedom of expression. “The movie is an attempt to implement the Sangh Parivar agenda and create a social divide by casting a shadow of doubt over the minority groups,” Satheesan added.
