Rajgarh: In a shocking incident at the Rajgarh district hospital in Madhya Pradesh, thieves stole an oxygen supply pipe recently, leaving 12 oxygen-dependent newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) struggling to breathe. The stolen pipe, a 10-15 foot copper segment, was essential for supplying oxygen to the critical unit.

The theft, which occurred late Tuesday night, caused a disruption in oxygen flow, triggering panic among hospital staff. As the oxygen supply halted, the infants, who relied on it for survival, began to cry, alerting the medical staff to the emergency. The NICU's inbuilt alarm system was also activated, helping to quickly draw attention to the crisis.

Medical staff quickly managed to prevent a potential tragedy by connecting a jumbo oxygen cylinder to the system, restoring the critical supply.

Rajgarh Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Kiran Wadia confirmed that the situation was brought under control and the oxygen supply was promptly restored.

An official stated that the staff responded quickly, and the backup system prevented any loss of life.

At the time of the incident, 20 newborns were being treated in the NICU, 12 of whom were dependent on oxygen.
