Srinagar, Aug 30 : Two militants were killed in a gunfight with the security forces on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, police said.

The body of the second militant was recovered from the encounter site in Parray Mohalla of Hajin area where searches were continuing after the firing the exchanges stopped.

Earlier reports said the second militant had managed to escape as only one militant's body was recovered initially by the security forces. "The exact identity of the slain militants is being ascertained," a police officer said.

A patrol party of the Indian Army and state police was fired upon earlier in the day. In retaliation, the security forces fired back at the militants, triggering the gun battle.
