Jaipur, Jul 8 (PTI): Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's father Daulal Vaishnaw passed away at AIIMS Jodhpur on Tuesday, hospital authorities said.

He had been critically ill for the past few days and was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

"It is with profound sorrow that we inform you of the demise of Hon'ble Railway Minister's father, Shri Daulal Vaishnaw, today on 08 July 2025 at 11:52 am at AIIMS Jodhpur," the hospital said in an official statement.

Despite all possible efforts by the medical team, he could not be saved, it said.

Before the last rites, Daulal Vaishnaw's mortal remains were kept at his residence in Mahaveer Nagar, Ratanada, for people to pay their last respects.

Pali MP P P Chaudhary, Rajya Sabha MP Rajendra Gehlot, several other public representatives and BJP leaders paid floral tributes.

The last rites were held at the Kaga cremation ground near Nagauri gate in Jodhpur where Ashwini Vaishnaw and his brother Anand Vaishnaw lit the funeral pyre.

Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani and other leaders extended their condolences on the demise of the minister's father, who was a sarpanch in Pali district and also practised as a lawyer in Jodhpur.

Mumbai (PTI): Police have arrested a man and seized over 500 grams of heroin worth Rs 2.54 crore in the illicit market from him in Mumbai, officials said on Friday.

The police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) made the drug seizure in Santacruz in the western suburbs. The operation was conducted by the Kandivali unit of the ANC on Thursday as part of a special crackdown against drug trafficking in the area, they said.

Acting on specific inputs, an ANC team conducted a raid in Santacruz (East) and intercepted a man. During a search, the team recovered 508 grams of high-grade heroin from his possession, an official said.

The seized contraband, a highly addictive, opioid drug derived from morphine, is estimated to be worth Rs 2.54 crore in the international market, he informed.

Following the seizure, a case was registered against the man under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and he was formally placed under arrest in the early hours of Friday.

The police are currently investigating the source of the drug and trying to identify the intended recipients of the consignment, he said.
