Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh: A distressing incident has unfolded in Uttar Pradesh, where a bus conductor, Mohit Yadav, reportedly took his own life after facing suspension for allowing two passengers to briefly disembark and offer prayers. The incident has sparked outrage among contract workers in Bareilly, who have registered their protest against the tragic demise of the bus conductor.

Mohit Yadav, aged 32, was employed as a conductor for a UPSRTC bus traveling from Kaushambi to Delhi. On June 3, 2023, Yadav requested the bus driver, KP Singh, to halt the bus for a couple of minutes near Rampur so that two Muslim passengers could perform their prayers on the roadside. This act led to a backlash from other passengers on the bus, who protested against Yadav and Singh for accommodating the religious observance.

Subsequently, both the conductor and the bus driver were suspended from their positions due to the incident. Yadav's suspension, particularly, had a significant impact on his mental well-being. He was reportedly under immense stress as a result of the suspension, which adversely affected his financial situation.

On August 27, Yadav went missing, and his lifeless body was discovered on the railway tracks near his residence on August 28. While no formal complaint has been registered, there are indications that Yadav may have taken his own life.

The UPSRTC Employees Union had criticized the authorities' decision to suspend Yadav and Singh, asserting that the punishment meted out was unjustified. The union has also pledged its support to Yadav's family should they choose to file a complaint regarding the circumstances leading up to his tragic death.

Reports suggest that Yadav's financial woes were exacerbated by his suspension, rendering him unable to secure alternative employment. The distressing combination of financial strain and professional setback is believed to have driven him to the extreme step of taking his own life.
