Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai has got a notice from Lucknow police ahead of the planned Sambhal visit on Monday, asking him to postpone his visit.

Rai has been informed that his programme should be postponed, keeping in mind the peace and communal sensitivity in the district.

However, Rai told ANI that he will go to Sambhal peacefully. "They have issued me a notice and have asked me that my visit will cause chaos. Certainly, we also don't want chaos but peace to prevail. The atrocity and injustice that was done there by the police and the government, I want my leadership to know this. They (police) gave me notice but I will go there peacefully," he asserted.

“The government is scared that the truth will be exposed. They will try to stop us, but we will still try to go. No matter how many policemen they deploy, we will go to Sambhal,” he added.

Violence erupted in Sambhal when a survey team reached to see if a temple existed at a spot where a mosque now stands, based on a petitioner's claim. Clashes between protesters and police left four people dead.
