Guwahati, Apr 26: Youth Congress national president Srinivas B V on Wednesday filed a petition in the Gauhati High Court praying for quashing of the FIR filed by expelled party leader Angkita Dutta accusing him of harassing and manhandling her.
The petition was filed in the court of Justice Ajit Borthakur who posted the matter for further hearing on May 2.
Dutta filed the complaint at the Dispur police station here on April 19 alleging that Srinivas has been "harassing and torturing her for the last six months by making sexist comments, using slang words and also threatening her with dire consequences if she keeps complaining against him to the senior party office bearers".
In the complaint, Dutta who was the president of Assam unit Youth Congress alleged that during the party's plenary session at Raipur in February, the accused had heckled her and threatened to ruin her political career.
The police then registered an FIR against Srinivas under various sections of the IPC related to harassment of women and the IT Act.
A five-member Guwahati police team went to Bengaluru on April 23 and pasted a notice at his residence directing him to appear at the Dispur Police station by May two.
Dutta had made certain allegations against Srinivas in a series of tweets on April 18.
The Congress had issued a show cause notice to her and later expelled her from the primary membership of the party for six years for anti-party activities.
Srinivas had also served a legal notice to Dutta demanding an apology, failing which he will initiate legal proceedings.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) had taken suo motu cognisance of her tweets and written to the state police on taking necessary action.

Bengaluru (PTI): Six foreign women were arrested after they were found to be allegedly engaged in illegal activities by soliciting men in a public place for prostitution, police said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made by the Women Protection Wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on April 24, they said.
Police, however, have not disclosed the nationalities of the women in the statement.
According to police, the operation was carried out following a tip off that some foreign women were standing near the footpath of the bus stop close to Madiwala Check Post, within the jurisdiction of Koramangala Police Station here and were soliciting men passing by on the road for prostitution.
Based on this information, the officers and staff of the CCB Women Protection Wing immediately visited the spot and conducted a verification, they said.
During the operation, it was found that six foreign women were engaging in illegal activities by soliciting men in a public place for prostitution, a statement issued by the office of the police commissioner stated.
Acting swiftly, the officers and staff conducted a raid and secured all six foreign women. Upon inquiry regarding their passports and visas, they failed to provide valid and satisfactory information, it said.
"Subsequently, all six foreign women were produced before the Koramangala Police Station along with a report for further legal action. In this regard, a case has been registered at Koramangala Police Station, and further investigation is in progress," the police statement added.
