New Delhi: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Monday expressed optimism about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and its transformative role in India, while outlining Meta’s vision for superintelligence during his video address at Reliance Industries Limited’s 48th Annual General Meeting, as reported by The Free Press Journal.
Speaking alongside Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Zuckerberg described the current moment as “an exciting era,” adding, “We are seeing glimpses of our AI systems starting to improve themselves. And it seems clear that superintelligence is going to greatly improve all of our existing systems and let us build things that we can’t even imagine today.”
He said Meta’s goal was to provide “personal superintelligence to everyone,” ushering in “a new era of personal empowerment” that would give individuals greater agency to shape the world.
Calling the tie-up with Reliance “a key step forward towards ensuring that everyone has access to AI, and eventually superintelligence,” Zuckerberg announced that Meta and Reliance would deliver Meta’s open-source AI models to Indian businesses.
“With Llama, we have seen how AI can amplify human potential, boosting productivity, inspiring creativity and accelerating innovation. And now, we can bring this to every corner of India with Reliance’s reach and scale,” he said.
Zuckerberg praised the open-source nature of Meta’s Llama models, which allow deployment across clouds, on premises, or through dedicated infrastructure, enabling adaptability for both startups in remote towns and large enterprises in major cities. “I believe that this venture will become a model for how AI and one day superintelligence , can be delivered to everyone. This is just the beginning,” he added.
Reliance also announced a collaboration with Google at the AGM. As part of the tie-up, Google will set up an AI-focused cloud region in Jamnagar exclusively for Reliance. “The AI opportunity in India is extraordinary,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai said, adding that the collaborations would help bring AI capabilities to even the smallest kirana stores in the country.
