Fake court busted in Gujarat; conman who passed orders as 'judge' arrested

Police have arrested a man after he allegedly set up a fake tribunal, posed as its judge and passed orders creating the ambience of a real court at his office in Gujarat's Gandhinagar, officials said.

 


Bombay High Court affirms Muslim men’s right to register multiple marriages

The Bombay High Court has ruled that a Muslim man can register more than one marriage under the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998. The court highlighted that Muslim personal law allows multiple marriages, and there is no provision in the Act preventing the registration of such marriages.

The Supreme Court on Monday drew parallels between frivolous cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and false charges of cruelty under s.498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A Bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih remarked that it might have to start quashing such money laundering cases if the Act continues to be misused.
