Udupi: Four police stations in Karkala Taluk have reportedly been sealed down after two policemen infected with coronavirus.

The District Administration has confirmed that a constable attached to Karkala rural police station and an ASI of Ajekaru police station have been tested positive for COVID-19. They are now being treated at Dr TMA Pai Covid Hospital in Udupi.

Following this, Ajekaru Police Station, Karkala Town, Karkala Rural and Karkala Circle Inspector stations have been sealed down. These three stations were operating in the same building.

In all, a total of 80 staff, including senior officers from four police stations, are advised to undergo home quarantine. It has been learnt that the two policemen who have tested positive had been working at checkposts and quarantine centers.

The health department reported that only two policemen have tested positive while remaining constables tested negative. The authorities have decided to reopen the building only after its sanitisation. They are thinking to shift the police station to an alternate building temporarily.

Srinagar (PTI): Property worth Rs 1 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler was on Saturday attached in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, police said.

A double-storey house on eight marlas of land situated at Wantpora Eidgah, belonging to Basit Bilal Dar, a notorious drug peddler, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, a police spokesperson said.

He said Dar is involved in two cases registered under various sections of the NDPS Act.

During investigation, it was established that the accused had acquired the said property through illicit proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities, the spokesperson said.

Consequently, the property was attached under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of the two independent witnesses, strictly in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures, he said.

As per the attachment order, the owner has been restrained from selling, leasing, transferring, altering, or creating any third-party interest in the property till further orders, the spokesperson added.
