97, including 12 elderly people, test positive for coronavirus in Dakshina Kannada
District records 3 deaths on Sunday
Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada has registered as many as 97 new cases of Corona infection on Sunday.
This is the highest number of cases in a single day in the district, which now has had a total of 673 cases. Three people have also died on Sunday.
The number of cases is increasing steadily but the source of infection is not detected in many cases, giving rise to further fear and worry among the people on the manner of spread of the virus.
Of the positive cases found on Sunday, there have been 29 people who returned from Saudi Arabia on June 10, 21 and 22 and a 26-year-old man who returned on June 19 from Qatar. There are 21 people with influenza-like illness (ILI) and five with severe acute respiratory infection (SARI). The source of illness of 28 people has not been identified yet, but 10 positive cases are said to have had primary-level with earlier cases, two men – aged 25 and 27 years – came from Chennai on June 20, and a 30-year-old woman came from Mumbai on June 10, said Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.
The bulletin of the Health Department released on Sunday has said that 12 senior citizens in the district were found to be positive – men aged 78, 75, 74, 70, 68, 68, 64, 63, 62 and 60 years and women aged 65 and 60 years.
The only news of relief for the people of the district is that six people, including patients aged 70 and 67 years, were discharged from hospital post-treatment on Sunday.
So far, 422 people have recovered in the district. Most of the people under treatment are said to be in a stable condition.

M'luru: School physical education teacher’s body found under mysterious circumstances in well
Ullal: The body of a 51-year-old physical education teacher was found in a well at his residence in Kondana, under the limits of Kotekar town, on Friday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Prabhakar Jogi, who was serving as a physical education teacher at the Government School in Kallarakodi, Naringana village. Police suspect that he may have died by suicide, allegedly due to health-related issues.
According to police, Prabhakar had dropped his daughter at Uchila School earlier in the day for the school anniversary programme and returned home.
He was later preparing to attend the same event along with his wife and son, when he suddenly went missing. A search was launched by family members, following which his body was found in the well located at his house.

Police said that Prabhakar Jogi was reportedly suffering from a neurological disorder. He had served in several schools across Ullal taluk and was actively involved in organisations of physical education teachers.
Ullal police visited the spot, conducted an inspection and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
In his complaint to the police, Prabhakar’s son, Sai Tejas, stated that his father had jumped into the well and that there was no suspicion surrounding the death.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
