Udupi: After the controversial ‘3am’ tweet by Dakshina Kannada BJP MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, another BJP MP from coastal Karnataka Shobha Karandlaje has used surgical strike and recent Balakot airstrike for election campaigning.

Shobha in her tweet on Thursday alleged the Congress government gave 5 million aid to Pakistan after 26/11 and released Pathankot mastermind as goodwill gesture. She then stated that Narendra Modi destroyed terror camps after Uri and Pulwama incident. She ended her tweet with a question to netizens about what kind of government they would want in 2019.

Here is what Shobha Tweeted:

Earlier Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had urged voters to vote for those who attack terrorists at 3.am and not those who knock the doors of Supremem Court at 3.am to save terrorists. Congress had reported the tweet to election commission and has filed complaint against the MP citing the tweet to be violating Election Code of Conduct.

Asserting that the armed forces are "apolitical and neutral stakeholders in a modern democracy", the Election Commission on March 9, had asked political parties across the nations to keep armed forces away from political campaigns.

The notice, which was sent to all the parties concerned, was issued after billboards featuring BJP leaders such as Narendra Modi and Amit Shah along with Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman came up in certain parts of the national capital. "Everything is possible under PM Modi," the billboards read.

The Election Commission, in its notice, drew the parties' attention to a letter dated December 4, 2013, that gave reasons for not using the armed forces in poll campaigns. "It is pertinent to mention here that the Armed Forces of a nation are the guardian of its frontiers, security and the political system. They are apolitical and neutral stakeholders in a modern democracy. It is therefore necessary that political parties and leaders exercise great caution while making any reference to the Armed Forces in their political campaigns," an extract from the earlier notice noted demanding strict compliance from the parties concerned.

Bengaluru (PTI): Opposition BJP on Friday condemned the government's move to make the chief minister the chancellor of the Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) University replacing the governor, terming it as an attempt to pollute the higher education system.

State BJP president B Y Vijayendra said this attempt to cut down on the powers of the governor is a conspiracy to upset the constitutional system.

The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday approved a bill, according to which the chief minister will be appointed as the chancellor, replacing the governor at the RDPR University in Gadag.

The governor is the chancellor for all public universities in Karnataka.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot currently holds the post.

"With a good intention that politics should not mix in education and as per the intent of the constitution, the Governor who is also the constitutional head of the state is the chancellor of the universities. But the government led by Siddaramaiah (CM), which is engaged in a series of corruption, by abusing its existing powers, is trying to pollute the higher education system," Vijayendra posted on 'X'.

He said the government's move will allow "unnecessary political interference" in the field of rural development studies.

"The Congress government, which has been impatient towards the governor since the beginning, sees him as an enemy to cut down on the powers, and it is a conspiracy to upset the constitutional system. This move of the state government is highly condemnable," he added.

Earlier in September, the cabinet, at a meeting held in Kalaburagi, decided to divest the governor of the power to appoint the vice-chancellor of RDPR University.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil on Thursday defended the government's move and said, "It will make the university more active and quick decisions will be taken...this system is there in many states, including Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh."
