Udupi: AICC member Amrit Shenoy on Tuesday filed his nomination papers from Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency as an Independent candidate, after failing to get Congress ticket from the constituency.
Amrit Shenoy took the decision on the eleventh hour and filed his nomination papers at the deputy commissioner’s office at around 2.45 pm on Tuesday. In the presence of Yagnese Acharya, Psychiatrist Dr. PV Bhandari, Allen Rohan Waj and Anita D'Souza.
“Decision to cede Udupi-Chikmagalur seat to JD(S) was not right, it was a Congress seat. The decision to field Congress candidate from JD(S) party is also wrong. I condemn the decision from the high command that is why I have filed nomination” he said while clarifying that he has not yet resigned from party and he will take a decision on that soon.

Vitla: Vitla Sub-inspector Ramakrishna has seized a vehicle that was allegedly transporting cattle illegally at Karai of Kolnadu village in Bantwal taluk. Two men in the vehicle, identified as Naveen and Chethan of Mandya, have reportedly been subjected to police questioning.
Police sources have said that the SI saw a vehicle transporting two cows and parked by the road. When he questioned the driver Naveen and Chethan, who were in the vehicle, about the cattle, he was told by the duo that the cows belonged to one Shankar, a resident of Channarayapatna. The men also told the SI that Shankar was supplying the cattle to a man in Salettur, identified as Shafi, allegedly for beef production.
Further, Naveen and Chethan confessed before the officer that they had gotten the cattle transport permit in others’ names, the sources have added.
