Udupi: In an unfortunate incident near the Aadi Udupi Market, an ailing man died miserably after struggling in the sun’s heat on Sunday.
Upon hearing about the ailing man, Social worker Vishu Shetty Ambalpady reached the spot at the last minute and helped take the unconscious man to the District Hospital. But unfortunately, the man passed away before he could receive any medical intervention.
“As the man was visibly struggling under the hot sun, hundreds of people walking past him wilfully ignored him turning blind to his plight and went about their way. At that moment, if anyone individual had offered him urgent help, the man would have definitely survived and his life could have been saved”, said Vishu Shetty expressing remorse.
“I received the information a little too late. Despite being occupied with other work, immediately I took an ambulance to the site and helped take the ailing man to the Hospital. The doctors who attended to him said that his life could have been saved, had he been brought to the hospital even half an hour earlier”, he said.
“If any individual, whether drunk or ill is inebriated under the burning sun, every responsible citizen must provide help. Otherwise, death is imminent. It was heart-wrenching to watch the grief-stricken wife of the deceased man in the hospital. Her widowhood could have been avoided. When the public and society turn blind despite having eyes, a life that could have been saved is lost. I hope the eyes that did not show mercy will change and at least provide help during similar emergencies in the future and transform into generous hearts”, wished Vishu Shetty Ambalapadi.
