Bantwal: A quarrel of two brothers regarding financial matter ended in tragic murder of one of them on Thursday morning at Bolangady near Melkar.

The deceased has been identified as Mayya alias Leo Lobo, 50, a resident of Bolangady in Panemangalore village near Melkar, while the elder brother Cyril Lobo is the accused.

The locals said the duo used to fight in inebriated state over monetary dispute. 

According to sources, two brothers, both of them were bachelors used to quarrel over something trivial. In a similar manner on Thursday morning they hit each other with a wooden stick, after getting head injury in the incident younger brother Leo Lobo died on the spot.

Bantwal CPI TD Nagaraj, SI Avinash, constables Murugesh, Girish, Basappa, Yogesh, Praveen and Niranjan, visited the spot and launched the investigation.

Shivamogga: A 17-year-old student from Kamakshi Street in the city, Prem Kumar, died of drowning while swimming in River Tunga in Pillangiri village of the taluk recently.

Prem, who was studying in II PUC at DVS College, was visiting the temple in Pillangiri with his friends and got into the river for a swim, when he drowned in the waters of the river.

The youngster’s body has been sent to the mortuary of the McGann Hospital in Shivamogga to conduct a post-mortem examination.

Shivamogga Rural Police visited the spot and held an inspection.
