Bantwal: In a recent development, Samita D Poojary, a candidate supported by the Congress, has been re-elected as the President of Netlamudnur Gram Panchayat (GP) in Bantwal taluk for the second term. Additionally, Sachidananda Poojary (Satish), also a Congress member, has been elected as the Vice President of the Gram Panchayat.

Netlamudnur GP comprised 11 members, with five backed by the Congress, five supported by the BJP, and one independent member. During the first term of the GP, independent candidate Sachidananda Poojary, who later joined the BJP, secured the president's position by a narrow one-vote margin. Meanwhile, Shakeela K Poojary was chosen as the Vice President.

In the second term, the President's role was reserved for a woman belonging to Backward Class 'A,' while the Vice President's position was reserved for the general category. In the recent election, Sachidananda Poojary switched allegiance from the BJP to the Congress, leading to an increase in Congress members from five to six. Consequently, the Congress exhibited dominance in the election, as both the President-elect Samita Poojary and Vice President Sachidananda Poojary are affiliated with the party.
