Melkar: Bantwal police on Saturday raided a gambling club and arrested 70 people including the club manager and seized cash and assets worth lakhs of rupess in a major bust of gambling racket here at Melkar of Bantwal.
The raid was led by ASP Saidul Adavath at Bantwal Recreation club near Melkar where illegal gambling activities were reported. The police had sought permission from Bantwal magistrate ahead of the raid.
During the raid the police seized cash amount of 72,100 and 51 mobile phones worth over one lakh rupees that were put on stakes for gambling.
Club manager Sai Kiran, 37, a resident of Manjeshwar in Kasargod, was taken into custody. The police added that the club had no license or the permit to operate
A case has been registered in the Bantwal city police station and further investigation is underway. SI Chandrashekhar, Sudhakar Thonse Manjunath and other police personnel were part of the raiding team.

Gondia (PTI): At least nine passengers were killed and 25 others injured when a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus overturned in Gondia district on Friday afternoon, police said.
Citing preliminary information, a senior police official said the MSRTC bus 'Shiv Shahi' was carrying 36 passengers and heading to Gondia district from Bhandara when it flipped over at Davva village under Sadakarjuni taluka while trying to overtake another vehicle.
Nine passengers were killed and 25 others injured in the accident which took place at around 12.30 pm, he said.
The injured passengers were shifted to hospital, the official added.
