Mangaluru, September 9: Various organizations have extended their support to the Bharat Bandh called by the Congress in the country on September 10 condemning the price hike of petroleum products.
Various labour organizations have already conducted jatha and meetings on the outskirts of the city and appealed to the people to cooperate for the bandh. Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners Association and Canara Bus Owners Association which held meetings separately extended their support to the bandh. So, if the private bus service suspended, the bandh would be successful in the district.
The Bus Owners Association has decided to suspend the bus service if the movement of the buses face any opposition. The price rise of petrol and diesel is condemnable. They cannot run the buses due to sky-rocketing of the prices and the bus owners have been incurring losses. So, the central government should bring in the petroleum products under GST, Association president Dilraj Alva and general secretary Prakash Sheka demanded.
Led by MLC Ivan D’Souza and other organizations, awareness jathas were conducted in the city. Former minister Ramanath Rai also appealed the people to support the bandh. Youth Congress is preparing the activists to make the bandh successful. On Sunday also, some units of the Congress party held meetings.
Left parties also extended their support to the Bharat Bandh called by the Congress and they have decided to hold a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday. Auto Rickshaw associations also extended their support to the bandh.
JDS extends support
The district JDS also extended its support to the bandh and party workers would participate in the bandh on Monday, said party district president Vittla Muhammad Kunhi.
Eastern Zone Bus Owners Federation
The Eastern Zone Bus Owners Federation also announced that it would morally extend its support to the bandh. Eastern Zone City and Service Bus Owners Association president Azeez Partippadi said that they were finding it difficult to run the private buses due to hike of diesel price. The cost of bus maintenance was increased considerably and this would have negative impact on the bus operations, he said.
DYFI support
DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla appealed the people and other organizations to make the Bharat Bandh a success on September 10.
CPM
CPM district committee would stage a protest in front of the DC office on Monday in support of the Bandh, according to a press release.
‘Bandh call is politically motivated’
Dakshina Kannada district BJP, in a press statement, said that the Bharat Bandh called by the opposition parties on September 10 against petroleum products price hike is politically motivated.
Due to fluctuation in the international market, it is common that the prices will fluctuate here also. Though the crude oil price has been increasing, the Congress-JDS coalition government in the state has increased Rs 2 last time. But the Congress leaders did not speak anything then. But now, as the Lok Sabha election is round the corner, the Congress leaders have called for Bharat bandh which is politically motivated, said BJP district president Sanjeeva Matandoor.
Private bus service to be stopped at DK, Udupi districts
As the Canara Bus Owners and Drivers Associations have extended their support to the Bharat Bandh on September 10, it might affect the private bus service in the district.
Canara Bus Owners Association president Rajavarma Ballal, vice president Sadananda Chatra, DK District Bus Owners Association president Dilraj Alva, secretary Prakash Sheka and Udupi district bus owners association president Suresh Nayak said that the central government has failed to check the fuel price hike and the common people were disappointed against the centre. The Association has decided to suspend the bus service in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, they said.
Support from Left parties
All the five left parties have called for protests and struggles across the country on September 10 condemning the price rise of petroleum products and other essential commodities, Rafale Deal scandal, failure in job creation, communalism and dictatorship and other anti-people policies of the central government. In view of this, CPM district executive committee has decided to hold protests in Udupi and Kundapura and appealed to the people to support the protest voluntarily. The CPM would conduct the protests at Ajjarakadu in Udupi on September 10 at 5.30 pm and at Kundapura at 4 pm, a press release said.
Congress minority wing
People and several other organizations have extended their support to the Bharat Bandh to be held on Monday condemning the price rise and other anti-people’s policies, said Congress minority wing Kaup Black president (north wing) Riyaz Palli.
Udupi district Congress calls for bandh
District Congress president Janardhan Tonse appealed the people of the district to cooperate and support the Bharat Bandh called by the Congress and other political parties on September 10, condemning the fuel price rise, and other commodities in the country.
