Bhatkal: A 16-year old youngster who returned from Umrah pilgrimage on Wednesday morning to Bhatkal, went missing at local Kadvinkatte dam on same evening while he was reportedly swimming along with his friends.
The missing youngster has been identified as Ibrahim Abida (16) a resident of Farooqui street in the town and is said to be a Hafiz-e-Quran.
Owing to the heavy rain in the region from last couple of days, the Kadvinkatte dam was gushing with water flow which washed away Ibrahim. His friends however tried to trace and rescue Ibrahim but he disappeared amidst gushing water in no time.
Local youngsters and police team led by CPI Ganesh KL rushed to the spot and immediately initiated search operation for Ibrahim.
At the time of posting the report, Ibrahim was yet to be found and a team of local youths were trying to trace and had spread themselves till Shirali and other nearby places.

Malpe: A 52-year-old man was allegedly assaulted at Malpe harbour on Tuesday morning around 7.30 am over a dispute related to a fish auction.
The injured has been identified as Sheikh Ayub (52), a resident of Ambalapady. He has sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Ajjarkadu, Udupi.
According to the complaint, Ayub works as a fish auctioneer at Malpe. On Tuesday morning, a boy reportedly brought fish to him for auction. While Ayub was conducting the auction, Mithun Karkera allegedly arrived at the spot and questioned him as to why he had brought the fish and why he was conducting the auction.
It is alleged that Mithun assaulted Ayub with his hands, hitting him on the face, eyes, stomach and head. He is also accused of abusing and threatening him.
A case has been registered at Malpe police station and further investigation is under way.
