Mangaluru: The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bearys Institute of Technology (BIT), in association with the IEEE Mangalore Subsection and BIT IEEE Student Branch, organised a technical session on Recent Advances in Aerospace Engineering. The event was coordinated by Dr. Imran Mokashi, Department of Mechanical Engineering, BIT.

The resource person, Dr. S. A. Khan, from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), delivered a lecture highlighting the significance of aerospace fundamentals and their role in modern technological advancements.

Dr. Khan began the session by explaining Mach number and flight regimes, classifying aircraft performance into subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic ranges, and discussing their direct implications on aircraft design. He elaborated on the governing equations of fluid flow, such as Euler’s Equation, Froude Number, and the conservation principles of mass, momentum, and energy, accompanied by mathematical formulations.

The talk further covered flow characteristics, where Dr. Khan differentiated compressible and incompressible flow, rotational and irrotational flow, and analyzed velocity gradients with practical relevance to aerospace design. He also provided a detailed overview of vibrations in aerospace systems, including free, forced, damped, and undamped vibrations, and the critical phenomenon of resonance, underlining their importance in aircraft structural safety and aeroelastic stability.

In conclusion, Dr. Khan emphasized that a strong foundation in fluid dynamics, conservation laws, and vibration analysis is crucial for fostering innovation in aerospace engineering. The session successfully connected theoretical concepts with real-world aerospace applications, inspiring students and faculty to explore advanced research in the field.

New Delhi (PTI): In a friendly banter, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he didn’t have "the wife issue", as the Congress MP emphasised that everyone has learnt from women in their lives.

Participating in a debate in the Lok Sabha on the three bills introduced for amendments to the women's quota law and setting up a delimitation commission, Gandhi said women are a driving force in the national imagination and national perspective.

"All of us in this room have been influenced, taught, and have learnt a lot from women in our lives – from mothers, sisters, wives," Gandhi said.

"Of course, the prime minister and myself don't have the wife issue, so we don't get that input, but we have our mothers and sisters," he said while referring to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju's light-hearted remark that he got a scolding at home as he did not pen a poem for his wife like Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal did.

Gandhi also lauded his sister and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi's speech in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

"Yesterday, I was watching my sister achieve in five minutes what I have not been able to do in 20 years of my political career – make Amit Shah Ji smile," Gandhi said to peals of laughter.
