Udupi: A case has been booked against the president of the Udupi unit of BJP on the charge of violation of model code of conduct after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election campaign meeting here on May 1.

According to the police, after Mr. Modi left on completing his speech at the MGM College grounds, free petrol was supplied to people with motorcycles and scooters at the Laksha Enterprises outlet at Gundibail. The entire sequence of distribution of petrol was recorded on video.

Based on a complaint, and a CD of the video provided by election flying squad officer Dayanand Bennur, the complainant, a case was registered against Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, the BJP leader, and the owner of the outlet after getting permission from court, the police said.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President DK Shivakumar has passed an order suspending Member of the Legislative Council Abdul Jabbar from the primary membership of the party.

Shivakumar, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, has stated in his order that the MLC is to be suspended with immediate effect.

Jabbar is said to have been suspended for his alleged anti-party activities during the by-election to the Davanagere South Assembly constituency.
