Mangaluru: Rajya Sabha member Kumari Selja alleged that BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were shedding crocodile tears for the welfare of Dalits.
Addressing a press conference at Dakshina Kannada District Congress Bhavan, she said that actions of the BJP leaders, including PM Modi, are different from what they say. The BJP leaders say they have great respect for Dr. BR Ambedkar. But in reality, they do not respect Dalits. The Supreme Court's recent verdict on Dalits has proved it. "If the BJP and the Center had responded in time, then such verdict would not have come from the Supreme Court," she added.
Violence on Dalits and women are increasing across the country. The government has not been able to cut it. In the budget, the NDA and the BJP-ruled states are not able to provide sufficient funds for Dalits' welfare. RSS' agendas are being applied on Dalits," Kumari Salja said.
She further said "BJP's stand evidently comes forth If we take Unnao and Kathua cases. The BJP leaders and the representatives who were part of the administration were supposed to provide justice to victims of the case. Instead, they are protecting the accused. BJP leaders including PM Modi raise nice slogans, but they do not practice them."
AICC media spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill, former Maharashtra minister Suresh Shetty, party leader Santosh Shetty and others were present.
