Bantwal: A candidate, who was scheduled to file nomination papers on Tuesday, has been arrested in connection with an assault case.
Bantwal Assembly constituency’s MEP candidate Shameer Yane Chammi, a resident of Shanti Angady, is the arrested person.
Shameer was accused in 2014’s Brahammarkootlu toll plaza incident. In connection with this case, court had issued a warrant against Shameer. On Monday he had attended the court where he was sent to judicial custody.
Shameer was all set to file nomination from Mahila Empowerment Party, but things did not go in his favor. Shameer had contested from JD (S) ticket also in the past.
