Surathkal: A young man from Surathkal, Kana was killed and four others were injured in a car accident in Kottayam, Kerala, on Wednesday morning, as per reports.

The deceased was identified as Shanawaz alias Shamim (32), a native of Angargudde in Mulki taluk and currently residing at Chirag Flats in Kana.

Siraj from Katipalla, Ashfaq from Kana, Shabir from Surinje and a man from Rajasthan, who were travelling in the car with him, were injured. Among them, Siraj is said to be in critical condition.

All five, including Shamim, were reportedly working as bouncers for an event in Kottayam. The accident occurred when they were travelling in a car to the city for breakfast. The car reportedly lost control on a narrow road and plunged about 20 feet down.

Shanawaz, who sustained severe injuries, died on the spot. Siraj, who was critically injured, was shifted to Mangaluru and admitted to Tejaswini Hospital.

Shabir from Surinje and Ashfaq from Kana were treated and discharged from the hospital. The car driver, a man from Rajasthan, it is reported that the person is out of danger.

Baramati (PTI): The last rites of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, killed in a plane crash, will be held with full state honours on Thursday in Baramati, Pune district.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to attend the funeral, which will be held at Vidya Pratishthan ground at 11 AM. Leaders cutting across the political spectrum will be present, the Nationalist Congress Party said.

The plane crash occurred in the morning shortly after Ajit Pawar and four other persons took off from Mumbai.

Besides Pawar, his Personal Security Officer, an attendant, and two crew members (pilot in command and the first officer) were also killed.

Pawar is survived by wife Sunetra, a member of the Rajya Sabha, and two sons, Parth and Jay.

The state government declared a public holiday on Wednesday and announced a three-day period of state mourning.
