Udupi, September 11: Total seven cases were booked against BJP and Congress workers on charges of involving in clashes during Bharat Bandh in the city on Monday. The cases were booked against more than 30 persons in different police stations in the city.
The police have arrested total 10 activists of Congress and BJP who were getting treatment at the Ajjarakadu government hospital after being injured during the clash and lathicharge. In view of this, police security was beefed up at the hospital on Tuesday and a KSRP platoon was deputed for the security purpose.
Suo motto cases
Following a complaint by Udupi circle inspector Naveen Chandra Jogi, a case was registered against BJP and Congress workers on charges of obstructing the police from discharging their duties at Bannanje, under IPC Column 143, 147, 290, 353 and 149.
Following another complaint from city SI Ananth Padmanabh, city police registered another case under IPC Section 143, 147, 149 and 290 against Congress and BJP workers on charges of torturing the people at SKM junction in the city. Another case was registered against Congress workers on charges of forcing auto drivers to stop autos at Manipal Tiger Circle.
Following a complaint from BJP city unit president Prabhakar Poojary that around 25 Congress workers have attacked BJP worker Shivaraj with lethal weapons at Bannanje and threatened him of dire consequences, a case was registered the city police station. Against the BJP’s complaint, Congress worker Gopal Poojary has lodged another complaint that Prabhakar Poojary and his followers attacked him with stones, assaulted and threatened him. Police have registered another case against the BJP workers.
In the same way, two more cases were filed against Congress workers for forceful bandh, at city police station and women police station based on the complaints from Kalsanka Jayananda and Chaitra Kundapura.

SP Lakshman Nimbargi said that total seven cases were filed against 30-40 workers of both Congress and BJP regarding the clashes during the Bandh on Monday and 10 persons were arrested. Action would be taken to arrest those who have involved in the clashes after reviewing the video records. As the situation was out of control, the police caned the agitators. Now, the city is peaceful and two KSRP platoons at the city and one at Kundapur were deployed for maintaining law and order situation. Chikmagaluru SP Annamalai was in the district to observe the situation, he said.

Nagpur (PTI): A student was killed and several students and teachers were injured as the bus carrying them to a picnic spot overturned near here on Tuesday morning, police said.
The accident took place when students and teachers of Saraswati High School in Shankar Nagar area here were heading for a picnic spot in neighbouring Wardha district in five buses.
One of the buses, with some 50 persons on board, overturned near Deoli Pendhari village on Hingani Road in a hilly section on the outskirts of the city, said an official of Hingna police station.
The deceased boy was a Class 7 student, he said, without disclosing the name. A girl and a teacher sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, Nagpur, while others were taken to a nearby rural hospital.
Investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident, police said.
