Mangaluru: The festival of Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) was celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervour across Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday. Devotees gathered in large numbers at mosques and Eidgahs since early morning to offer Eid prayers.
Eid Namaz and Khutbah were held at the Bavutagudde Eidgah Mosque on Lighthouse Hill Road in the city under th e leadership of D.K. District Qazi Alhaj Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar and at the Central Juma Mosque in Ullal under the leadership of Khatib Abdul Majeed Falili.
Muslims in the district were seen offering congregational prayers in mosques and Eidgahs, listening to Eid sermons, receiving Eid messages, and paying cordial visits to the homes of neighbors and relatives.
Worshippers, from children to the elderly, marked the occasion by donning new clothes, applying perfume, and sharing special festive meals. After the Eid prayers and sermons, many visited burial grounds to offer prayers for deceased family members, followed by warm visits to relatives and neighbours to exchange Eid greetings.
On the occasion, senior officials including Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy, DCP Siddharth Goyal, and MLC Ivan D’Souza extended their greetings during visits to various prayer venues.
Eidgah President Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, General Secretary Muhammad Haneef Haji, Treasurer S. M. Rashid Haji, former Mayor K. Ashraf, and several community leaders were also present.

Ranchi (PTI): Four minors were detained for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl at a birthday party in Jharkhand’s Ranchi, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on March 31 within the Namkum police station limits. An FIR in this regard was lodged on April 16 based on the girl’s statement, they said.
“All five, including the victim, were friends, and the girl had gone to attend the birthday party of one of those detained. At the party, the accused consumed alcohol and allegedly raped her,” said Ramnarayan Singh, the officer in-charge of Namkum police station.
“The four, aged between 15 and 17 years, have been detained and the medical examination of the girl is underway,” Singh said.
Further investigation is underway.
