Mangaluru: Department of Minority Welfare, Directorate of Minorities, Government of Karnataka has released a one-time grant of Rs. 8.12 crores for modernization of Madrasas in the state.
Under the Modernization of Madrasa scheme, in order to provide modern education in Madrasas, the Government has released the funds.
In a notification dated 8 February on the official website of Department of Minority Welfare and Directorate of Minorities, the one-time grant of 8.12 crores has been divided and given to 92 Madrasas across the state.
The notifications states “Under Modernization of Madrasa Scheme to provide a Modern, Formal and Computer Education in Madrasas, the Government of Karnataka has released a one-time grant of Rs. 8.12 crores (Batch 4) to the 92 Madrasas”.
Dakshina Kannada District however, has secured the lion’s share in the fund, with as much as 40 Madrasas of the District finding itself in the list of 92 Madrasas selected across the state.
The district has also secured, by far the highest amount from the grant, with 40 Madrasas getting a total grant of Three Crores Ninety Six Lakh Rupees.

The only other district to get a grant of over one crore rupees other than Dakshina Kannada is Vijayapura, which has secured a grant of One Crore Twelve Lakh Rupees for fourteen Madrasas in the district.
Other than the two districts, no other district has secured the grant worth more than fifty lakh rupees.
According to the notification, this is the highest sum released among the four batches of the schemes. In the first batch of grant Rs. Twenty Two Crores Twenty Lakhs Rupees, the second batch released grant of Seventy Six Lakh Rupees, while the third batch had released Five Crores Fifty Six Lakhs Rupees under the Modernization of Madrasa Scheme.
After 8.12 crores’ grant in the fourth batch, the government has released Sixteen Crores Seventy Six Lakhs Rupees in the scheme.

Belagavi: Speaker U.T. Khader on Friday warned that members who disrupt Assembly proceedings by talking in their seats during debates will be made to sit in the House for an entire day as a disciplinary measure.
The warning came after the Question Hour, when Deputy Leader of the Opposition Arvind Bellad was permitted to initiate a discussion on the development of North Karnataka.
At this point, expelled BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal objected, stating that he had been seeking a debate for the past three days but had not been given an opportunity.

Responding to the objection, Speaker Khader said Bellad had already been granted permission and assured Yatnal that he would be allowed to speak at the next opportunity. He noted that even as a serious discussion was underway, several MLAs were speaking among themselves with their microphones on, disrupting the proceedings.
Expressing displeasure over the conduct of members, Khader likened the situation to football, where players receive red, yellow, or white cards for violations. Similarly, he said, the Assembly issues warning cards to members who disturb the House. If they fail to correct themselves despite repeated warnings, they would be required to remain seated in the Assembly hall for a full day as punishment, he stated.
