Padubidri: On Tuesday, a march dubbed as ‘Surathkal Toll Gate Chalo’ was initiated from Hejamady demanding the removal of the temporary toll gate and seeking toll exemptions for the locals at the Hejamady toll.
Former Minister Vinaya Kumar Sorake commenced the march demonstration near the Junior College beside the Hejamady Toll Gate at the National Highway 66.
The marchers will be going through Hejamady, Mulki, Kolnadu, and Haleyangadi Mukka National Highway and reaching the Surathkal NITK toll gate, it is learned. More than 50 like-minded organizations from Dakshina Kannada and the Udupi district have expressed their support. Former Minister Abhaychandra Jain, Former MLA Moidin Bava, Billava Mahamandala President Rajashekhar Kotian, Advocate Dinesh Hegde Ulepaadi, Protest Committee’s Muneer Kaatipalla, Udupi district Taxi, and Maxi Cab Association chief secretary Ramersha K. Kotian and others participated in the march.

Manipal: The Manipal police arrested two accused within 11 hours of registering a bike theft case following a swift investigation.
The accused have been identified as Sharath (26) and Ganesh (31), residents of Netaji Nagar in 80 Badagabettu village.
According to police, a complaint was filed after a motorcycle belonging to Sudarshan was stolen on February 21. The bike had been parked near Veera Maruti Bhajana Mandir in Rahul Nagar, Badagabettu village.
According to the complaint, police traced and arrested the accused and recovered the stolen motorcycle from their possession. The duo was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
Police said over 11 theft cases have been registered against the accused at various police stations, including Manipal, Udupi City, Bhadravati, Koppa, Thirthahalli, Madikeri and Tumakuru.
Further investigation is under way.
