Mangaluru: In order to contain the spread of dengue fever in the district, the district health department and the city corporation have taken up preventive measures in the city. In spite of controlling measures, 44 cases were reported in the district on Friday.

In all 40 cases were reported in Mangaluru taluk, while four in Bantwala taluk. Two more from other districts were undergoing treatment in the hospital.

As many as 32 cases were reported on Wednesday, 27 on Thursday and 40 cases on Friday. But the spreading of the fever in the district has created an alarming situation.

35k fine 

The health department officials have been creating awareness among people visiting various areas, buildings, parks, commercial complexes. Awareness was created in Port and Pandeshwara areas against mosquito breeding. The officials slapped a fine of Rs 35,000 against people and building owners where water clogged.

Training

In order to contain the dengue, Red Cross and Nehru Yuva Kendra gave training for volunteers on Friday. Total 62 volunteers participated in the training. Dengue affected city was divided into four divisions and appointed 62 volunteers to create awareness on dengue.

Guppy fish

On Friday, the city corporation has released guppy fish to Gujjarakere near Jeppu where dengue cases were reported. The guppy fish will eat mosquito larvae and control the breeding of mosquitoes.

Mangaluru: RSS leader Dr. Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat has been granted bail by the Puttur Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court in a case related to alleged communal hate speech.

The case pertains to a complaint filed against Bhat for delivering a speech during a Deepotsava event that was allegedly communal, derogatory towards women, and capable of disturbing public order. The incident took place on October 22 at Uppalige in Puttur taluk during the Deepotsava and Gopuja programme, where Bhat was present.

Following the complaint filed by Eshwari Padmunja at the Puttur Rural Police Station, the police had issued a notice directing Bhat to appear for inquiry. Subsequently, Bhat filed an anticipatory bail petition before the court.

During the hearing on October 27, the court issued an interim order restraining coercive action and adjourned the matter to October 29 for complete hearing. On October 29, the counsel representing complainant Eshwari Padmunja sought permission to argue under Sections 338 and 339 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The court adjourned the matter several times post that.

On Wednesday, the court granted bail to Prabhakar Bhat.
