Mangaluru, Nov 29: SP Ravikanthe Gowda has suspended Bantwala station ASI Raghuram Hegde on charges of dereliction of duty in taking the complaint given by the victim of Thota Bengre gang-rape incident.
The victim of the case registered at women police station in the city on November 26, had been to Bantwala police station on November 20 to lodge a complaint on gang-rape by a team of seven youth near Tannirbhavi on November 18. But ASI Raghuram Hegde who was on day duty, declined to take a complaint saying that she has to lodge a complaint at the jurisdictional police station where the incident happened and sent her.
Following this incident, the SP suspended Raghuram Hegde from the service pending enquiry, according to a statement from the SP.

The message, issued by the Ministry of Interior (MOI), thanked people for their cooperation and reassured them that conditions were stable.
“Thank you for your cooperation. We reassure you that the situation is currently safe. You may resume your normal activities while continuing to remain cautious and take the necessary precautions, and to follow official instructions. (MOI),” the alert read.
The notification was sent in both Arabic and English through the country’s emergency alert system.
The advisory comes after earlier alerts warning of potential missile threats amid rising regional tensions. Authorities have urged the public to stay cautious and follow official guidance.
