Mangaluru: In an effort to make Mangaluru ‘drug-free,’ the CCB Police arrested a man, Shameer PK, near Mulki and seized 738 grams of hydro ganja worth ₹73 lakh, which he was transporting in his car.

The police said on Friday that Shameer is a resident of Kandalad village in the Kozhikode district of Kerala. They have also confiscated his mobile phone as well as the car he was using to transport the narcotics, with the total value of the confiscated items estimated to be more than ₹80 lakh.

The officers stated that Shameer was transporting the narcotics from Goa to be supplied to various places, including Mangaluru and Kerala. The CCB Police intercepted his car near Bappanadu on the outskirts of Mulki town, and upon checking the vehicle, found 738 grams of hydro ganja.

An FIR has been filed at the Mulki Police Station, and further investigation is underway. The CCB Police have stated that a preliminary probe revealed the narcotics were supplied from abroad.

The CCB investigation team was led by ACP Manoj Kumar Nayak and included Inspector Shyamsunder HM, Sub-inspector Sharanappa Bhandari, and other police personnel.

Belagavi (Karnataka) (PTI): Two people were killed, and another was severely injured after a goods vehicle transporting poultry birds allegedly rammed into a stationary truck on a national highway in Belagavi in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Wasim (28) and Mubarak (22), both natives of Shivamogga district, they said.

The driver of the vehicle, Basavaraj Eerappa Hanchinamani (37), suffered critical injuries and has been admitted to a hospital, police said.

According to police, the accident occurred when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, allegedly due to drowsiness, and crashed into a truck parked along the highway.

The goods vehicle was en route from Kolhapur to Sorab in Shivamogga district, carrying poultry. Several chickens were also killed in the impact, a senior police officer said.

Police personnel from the Hirebagewadi Police Station visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Injured people and the bodies of the deceased were shifted to a hospital, police added.
