Mangaluru: Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Friday, March 20, across coastal Karnataka following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon on Thursday evening.
In Udupi, Udupi Samyukta Jamaat General Secretary Haji M A Bavu Muloor, in a statement, announced that Udupi District Naib Qazi Ustad B.K. Abdurrahman Madani Mulur has called for the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday in the district.
Meanwhile, in Dakshina Kannada district, D.K. District Qazi Alhaj Twaka Ahmed Musliyar has called for Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated on Friday, Masjid Zeenath Baksh Treasurer Dr. S.M. Rasheed Haji said in a statement. Ullal Qazi Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar has also called for Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated on Friday, Ullal Darga President B.G. Haneef Haji said in a statement.
The moon sighting marks the conclusion of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, starting the Eid prayers and celebrations across the region.

New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a plea seeking a direction to the Centre and others to frame guidelines for the display of the Ashoka Chakra on the national flag.
A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi told the petitioner, who appeared in person, to do something constructive for society.
"There is no need to be so emotional about these things. Your idea is good. You have informed the authorities. Now it is for the authorities to see what they want to do," the CJI told the petitioner.
"You do some constructive work for society," the bench said.
The petitioner showed a picture of the Ashoka Chakra installed at a roundabout in Varanasi, but the bench refused to entertain the plea.
