Bhatkal: A 40 year-old local fisherman died after drowning as he slipped into the sea from a docked ship at Bhatkal’s fishing dock here on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Uday Moger (40), who was working on a fishing boat. He was a resident of Karikal locality in Bhatkal.

According to the sources, Uday was attending nature’s call from the docked boat and lost balance and slipped into the waters.

He went missing after slipping into the sea. Local fishermen contacted prominent social workers of Bhatkal, Nazir Kashimji and Muazziz Kola seeking help for the rescue operation.

Both the social workers reached the spot along with a team local youngsters and swung into action to trace Uday.

After an hour of hard work the team finally traced Uday, but by then Uday had already breathed his last. Uday is survived by his wife and three chidren.

Local fishermen thanked the Muslim youngsters, Nazir Kashimji and Muazziz Kola for attending their call for help and reaching out to them.

In a video that is now being widely shared in local social media groups, members of local fishermen community are seen thanking and appreciating local Muslim youngsters for always attending such calls for help and lending support every time such incidents are reported.

Jaipur, Jan 11: A dalit man was allegedly tied upside down from a tree and beaten up Rajasthan's Barmer district, police said on Saturday.

A video of the incident surfaced online on Saturday following which a case has been registered, a senior police officer said.

Station House Officer Gudamalani Mukta Pareek said that Shrawan Meghwal was tied upside down from a tree and beaten up in a village on Friday.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused blamed Meghwal for being involved in theft. The victim has filed a complaint in the matter, she said.

The case was registered against five to six people and further investigation is underway, she added.
