Malpe: Seven fishermen were rescued after a fishing boat from Malpe collided with a rock near Netrani in Bhatkal at around 6 AM on Monday.
The seabird boat, which belonged to Rahil of Sampige Nagara in Udyavara, had gone for deep sea fishing from Malpe port with seven fishermen on the night of May 21. On the morning of May 22, the fishermen were fishing near Netrani when it rained heavily. As a result, the boat lost control and hit a nearby rock. The boat hit and the sea water started coming into the boat.

As a result, the boat started sinking in the middle of the sea, prompting nearby boatmen to swiftly respond and attempt to tow the sinking vessel using a rope. Unfortunately, during the process, the rope snapped, leading to the complete submergence of the boat. Meanwhile, all the seven occupants of the boat were rescued from Netrani and brought back to Malpe port. A loss of Rs 45 lakhs is estimated to have occurred.

Thrissur (Kerala) (PTI): One more person who had been hospitalised following the Mundathikode fireworks explosion died at Thrissur Medical College on Sunday, police said.
With this, the death toll in the incident has risen to 16.
According to Thrissur Medical College police, the deceased has been identified as Unnikrishnan from Edappal, who was among the 38 persons present at the fireworks manufacturing unit in Mundathikode where the explosions occurred on April 21.
Police said Unnikrishnan had suffered over 80 per cent burns and had remained in critical condition.
The condition of the two other injured persons remains critical, police said.
Of the 38 persons present at the site, 16 have died, while four remain missing.
The fireworks were being manufactured for Thiruvambady Devaswom as part of the Thrissur Pooram festivities.
The licensee of the unit had also suffered burn injuries and had died earlier.
