Mangaluru: Officers from various police stations in the city and the outskirts of Mangaluru, who undertook separate investigative operations, have arrested five people under charge of consumption of narcotics.

Ullal Assistant Sub-inspector Mohan KV has arrested Suhan Poojary (21) and B Sudesh (19), learned to be residents of Narla Padil in Ullal.

Police sources have said that the ASI was on his rounds in Kotekar village of Ullal taluk when he noticed the two youngsters, who were under the influence of narcotics and causing inconvenience to the public on Beeri Road in Kotekar. Poojary and Sudesh were taken into custody and, when subjected to a medical check-up, found to have consumed drugs, police have said.

In a second case, a man accused of narcotics consumption, identified as Ashraf, was held by Panambur Station Sub-inspector Shrikala KT recently. The officer reportedly arrested Ashraf near Kasaba Bengre in Mangaluru taluk on Monday, February 23.

Two youngsters, Chandan (19) of Urundadigudde and Kiran Ravi Nayak (24), a resident of Siddapura Kanakeri, were seen in a delirious state, allegedly after consuming drugs. The duo was held near the bus stand in Panjimogaru in Mangaluru city.

Chennai (PTI): Veteran leader of the CPI, R Nallakannu died here on Wednesday, the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital said.

He was aged about 101, party sources said.

A hospital bulletin said, despite intensive care, he passed away at 1.55 PM on February 25, 2026 following failure of all vital organs.
