Mangaluru: The coastal city of Mangaluru is set to enjoy increased air connectivity with the capital city, Bengaluru, as an additional daily flight will be introduced on weekdays and an extra flight on Saturdays starting from September 7th.

This expansion will raise the number of daily flights from Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) to Bengaluru to five during weekdays and Sundays, with an additional flight on Saturdays. IndiGo, an Indian airline, will operate these additional flights until October 28th.

Presently, IndiGo operates four daily flights between the two cities. Commencing from September 7th, IndiGo will reintroduce flight 6E 6858, adding a fifth daily flight on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru route. This flight will arrive in Mangaluru at 8.35 am and depart for Bengaluru as flight 6E 5347 at 9.10 am. This new flight complements the existing flights on this route: one departing for Patna via Bengaluru at 6.50 am (6E0255), another to Kolkata via Bengaluru at 11.35 am (6E0172), and direct flights to Bengaluru at 4.25 pm and 9.50 pm (6E0388/6E6859), respectively.

The introduction of a sixth flight to Bengaluru on Saturdays is a result of IndiGo's rescheduling of the days and times for its Mangaluru-Pune flight, which operates on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sundays, and now Saturdays. Flight 6E 294 arrives in Mangaluru at 5.50 pm and departs for Pune as flight 6E 298 at 6.35 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. On Saturdays, flight 6E359 arrives in Mangaluru from Bengaluru at 5.50 pm and subsequently departs for Pune as flight 6E 298 at 6.35 pm.

These changes in flight schedules on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru and Mangaluru-Pune routes will increase daily international and domestic flight movements from 38 to 40 on Monday to Friday and from 40 to 42 on Saturdays and Sundays. The airport spokesperson also mentioned that the airport is in discussions with other airlines to initiate flights to MIA. These new flights are expected to commence as part of the winter schedule starting on October 29th.

Kolkata (PTI): Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee cut short her speech at a rally in her Bhabanipur constituency, alleging that the BJP was deliberately playing loud music from a nearby public meeting.

A peeved Banerjee said despite having the required permission of the Election Commission, her rally in Chakraberia was disrupted by the BJP, "who want to capture Bengal by intimidation and threat".

"It is not possible for me to go ahead with this meeting. If they can do such a thing in my constituency, imagine how undemocratic the BJP is. If they behave like this, I have to take legal action," she said.

"This is an insult, humiliation. BJP is stepping on our toes to instigate trouble. Not possible to address the gathering in this situation. I am leaving the stage. Please vote for me in your protest," she added.

Banerjee was then seen calling someone over and venting her grievances.

Before leaving the stage, she said, "I will hold a rally tomorrow at the same spot."

TMC supporters then rushed towards the BJP rally, which was later addressed by Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, but security personnel intervened and prevented the situation from escalating.

TMC workers later staged a demonstration outside the local police station and filed a complaint, alleging that the BJP violated the model code of conduct.

A senior TMC leader said another complaint will also be lodged with the Election Commission.

Asked about Banerjee's allegations, Adhikari told reporters after the rally he held nearby, "Her reaction shows she is nervous about the imminent loss."

"There was no violence, no obstruction in her meeting and her behaviour shows her nervousness. On May 4, people of Bhabanipur will celebrate the victory of the BJP," he claimed, alleging that the TMC also tried to disrupt his meeting by playing loud music.

South Kolkata's Bhabanipur, one of the battleground seats in the West Bengal elections, will vote in the second phase on April 29.
