Udupi: The Former captain of the Indian Football team, Shekhar Paddu Bangera (74) from Udupi passed away due to COVID on Thursday.
Shekhar Bangera, who had contracted COVID had been receiving treatment in Mahesh Hospital at Brahmavar. As the treatment proved to be ineffective, he reportedly passed away on Thursday morning.
Originally from Badanidiyuru in Udupi, Shekhar Bangera played as the goalkeeper of the Indian Football Team. During the time, he was also the captain of the team.
Living in Mumbai for many years, he has served as a coaching instructor for various football associations in the city.
The funeral rites of the deceased will be carried out on Thursday at Udupi.

New Delhi (PTI): A Leh-bound SpiceJet aircraft returned to the national capital due to an engine issue on Tuesday morning, according to a source.
There were around 150 people on board the Boeing 737 aircraft that was operating the flight SG121, the source added.
When contacted, a SpiceJet spokesperson said a flight operating from Delhi to Leh on Tuesday returned to Delhi after experiencing a technical issue.
"The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers were disembarked normally," the spokesperson said in a statement.
The source said the aircraft suffered an engine issue.
