Mangaluru: Former Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor, Purandara Das on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of Congress party ahead of the MCC election that is set to be held on November 14.

According to the reports he resigned from the party after he was named as the candidate from ward no. 17 (Derebail) from Congress and was asked to file B form only to be replaced by another candidate at the last moment.

In the resignation letter, Das noted that he felt insulted and that his services to the party was insulted with the last minute call to not field him, allegedly on instructions of former Karnataka Minister Ramanath Rai.

Das submitted his resignation to Congress Dakshina Kannada President Harish Kumar.
