Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District Administration on Thursday evening declared holidays to all government and private PU Colleges and schools on Friday 25 October, owing to heavy rain in Coastal Karnataka that is further expected to continue till Saturday.

Earlier, the Meteorological Department had issued red-alert in the District till Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh on Thursday evening issued orders calling on all colleges and schools to declare holiday on Friday.

The administration has also urged people from going near water bodies for picnicking while also directing fishermen to not venturing into sea for fishing or other activities.

District Disaster Management Authority has be put on high alert with Taluk and District Administration officials also being advised to be alert. People have been urged to contact toll-free helpline 1077 in cases of emergencies.

Thane (PTI): Two young men were killed and another was seriously injured when a speeding bus rammed into their motorcycle in Mumbra area of the city on Tuesday evening, police said.

The victims, all residents of Thakur Pada, were riding from Roshni Mahel toward Y Junction.

"The motorcycle was hit from behind by a bus driven by Mustafa Hussain Sheikh (58). The two-wheeler got dragged under the front wheel of the bus," said a traffic police official. 

Sangam Rajesh Pulshare (21) and Avinash Ramdas Davande (19) died while Mahesh Bhagwan Vare (18) sustained serious injuries.

The bus driver was detained and a case was being registered at the Mumbra police station, said the official.
