District is on red alert for August 7 and 8
Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Tuesday afternoon declared holiday to all schools and colleges in the District.
Earlier in the day, Senthil had put the District on red alert for August 7 and 8 owing to the continuous rains expected in Coastal Karnataka over the next few days.
Tuesday’s order states that all the schools and colleges including degree colleges will remain closed on Wednesday.

Yogish Goudar murder case: Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni, 16 others sentenced to life imprisonment

Bengaluru: A special court for people’s representatives has sentenced Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni and 16 others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of BJP leader Yogish Goudar.
The verdict was delivered by judge Santhosh Gajanana Bhat. The court had earlier, on Wednesday, held all 17 accused guilty of murdering Goudar, while reserving the quantum of punishment.
On Friday, the court pronounced the sentence, awarding life imprisonment to all the convicted persons in the case.
Yogish Goudar, a BJP member from the Hebballi Zilla Panchayat constituency in Dharwad district, was murdered in 2016.
