Hebri: A brutal incident involving the en masse killing of monkeys came to light on the 6th of September, Sunday. The carcasses of slain animals were found at Nadpalu on the Someshwara-Madamakki road.

The gunny bags containing dead monkeys were found thrown on the roadside. This act is suspected to have taken place two days ago. The remains in the gunny bags are reportedly decomposing.

Some of the carcasses had fallen on the side of the road, while many others were recovered in the sacks. Among the dead animals, a mother and its infant were also identified.

Anil, a forest official from the Wildlife Division at Hebri visited the site for further inspection. The veterinarians have been informed to arrive on-site and reportedly a post mortem examination is set to be conducted. Further investigation will be carried out said, Anil. 

Rudran, a Sub-Divisional Forest Officer at the Karkala Wildlife Division has also visited the spot.

In the wake of this incident, animal lovers have taken to social networking sites demanding strict action against individuals involved in the killing of innocent animals.

“Those who commit such acts should be harshly punished. Everyone should join hands for the protection of the animals,” are among the messages circulating in social media.

Dharamsala (PTI): Already out of play-offs race, Mumbai Indians beat Punjab Kings by six wickets in their IPL match here on Thursday.

Tilak Varma remained not out on 75 off 33 balls as MI chased down the target of 201 with one ball to spare. Will Jacks gave Varma company with 25 not out off 10 balls as MI reached 205 for 4 in 19.5 overs.

For Punjab, Azmatullah Omarzai was the most successful bowler with figures of 2/36.

Earlier, Shardul Thakur returned with excellent figures of 4 for 39 for MI, who are already out of the IPL play-offs race, but Punjab Kings still scored 200 for 8.

Deepak Chahar (2/36), Corbin Bosch (1/42) and Raj Bawa (1/11) were the other MI wicket takers.
