Horrific road mishap kills 9, injures at least 20 in Karkala
Karkala: In a horrific road accident, at least 9 people died on the spot while several others sustained critical injuries when a bus coming from Mysuru rammed onto a rock beside the road on Mulnur Ghat in Karkala of Udupi District.
According to the reports, the bus belonged to a private company in Mysuru and was plying staff of the company of tour when the bus driver lost control over the wheels on Mulnur Ghat here on Saturday evening and rammed the vehicle on the rock.
As an impact of the accident, seven passengers died on the spot while 2 others succumbed to their injuries when they were being taken to the hospital.
Reports add at least 20 others have sustained critical injuries in the accident.

Manipal: Two held within 11 hours in bike theft case
Manipal: The Manipal police arrested two accused within 11 hours of registering a bike theft case following a swift investigation.
The accused have been identified as Sharath (26) and Ganesh (31), residents of Netaji Nagar in 80 Badagabettu village.
According to police, a complaint was filed after a motorcycle belonging to Sudarshan was stolen on February 21. The bike had been parked near Veera Maruti Bhajana Mandir in Rahul Nagar, Badagabettu village.
According to the complaint, police traced and arrested the accused and recovered the stolen motorcycle from their possession. The duo was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
Police said over 11 theft cases have been registered against the accused at various police stations, including Manipal, Udupi City, Bhadravati, Koppa, Thirthahalli, Madikeri and Tumakuru.
Further investigation is under way.
