Mangaluru: Owing to the heavy rain Coastal Karnataka has witnessed over the last few days, water level at Ullal, Uchila and Someshwara seas have increased significantly and waves have intensified, raising concerns for the local residents.

At Betampadi several coconut and other trees have reportedly washed away into the water.

At Someshwara, sea waves’ intensity cracked the safety walls on the shores and the water entered the residential area crossing the safety walls.

Similar incidents of water entering onto residential areas and roads were reported from Bettampady and Uchchila, causing damages to the road while also causing inconvenience to the commuters of the road.

The situation at the shores was alarming and is posing threat to the residents as the water had entered in the backyard of a house belonging to one of the resident Mohan, in Someshwara. Someshwara Municipal President Rajesh Uchila visited the spot.

Bengaluru: A special court for people’s representatives has sentenced Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni and 16 others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of BJP leader Yogish Goudar.

The verdict was delivered by judge Santhosh Gajanana Bhat. The court had earlier, on Wednesday, held all 17 accused guilty of murdering Goudar, while reserving the quantum of punishment.

On Friday, the court pronounced the sentence, awarding life imprisonment to all the convicted persons in the case.

Yogish Goudar, a BJP member from the Hebballi Zilla Panchayat constituency in Dharwad district, was murdered in 2016.
