Karkala: In an alleged case of police atrocity, a Congress activist from Karkala has been hospitalized after he was reportedly assaulted by police officers in Karkala.
According to the reports, Radhakrishna Nayak, a Congress worker had filed a police complaint in August last year stating that a fake Facebook account was created using his credentials and a derogatory post against the Indian Army was made through the account.
Then an employee of a private firm in Bengaluru, Radhakrishna had filed police complaint on 26-8-2020. Following the procedure and request from the police, he had filed another complaint in this regard on 4-9-2020. Radhakrishna’s statement was also recorded at Gangamma Gudi Police Station where the complaint was filed.
Radhakrishna had then lost his job in Bengaluru and had returned to his native Karkala. In April 2021 he also suffered a cardiac arrest and was ailing.
Radhakrishna’s family sources alleged that he received a call from Karkala Police Station few days back after which he visited the police station for three days but was unable to meet the SHO. On Thursday, the cops allegedly assaulted Radhakrishna after which he was taken to a hospital in Manipal where his health is critical, family sources said.
Former Karnataka CM and Congress senior leader Siddaramaiah and DYFI State President Muneer Katipalla took to their respective social media accounts to condemn the incident and sought action against guilty.

Bidar: A major protest erupted in front of the district government hospital following a deadly shooting incident involving State Bank of India ATM staff. One staff member was killed, and another critically injured when unidentified assailants opened fire as they attempted to deposit money at the ATM.
The incident drew public outrage, with family members of the victims and local residents gathering outside the hospital. They demanded immediate compensation, job security for a family member, and expedited post-mortem procedures, criticizing the absence of senior officials and government representatives earlier in the day.

MP Sagar Khandre later arrived to offer condolences and address the protesters' concerns. Responding to demands, he assured that he would discuss the matter with the Chief Minister to arrange for two acres of land and a government job for the victim’s family. Additionally, he confirmed that since the case falls under the Atrocity Act, the Social Welfare Department would provide Rs. 8 lakh in compensation.
Following his assurances, the protest was called off, bringing temporary relief to the tense situation. Police investigations into the robbery and shooting are ongoing, with senior officials, including IGP Ajay Hiroli, overseeing the case.
