Mangaluru: State NSUI General Secretary Sawad Sulya has condemned the University Grants Commission's (UGC) directive to set up selfie points of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in all universities and colleges in the country.
Sawad opined that the UGC directive was not in the best interest of students, “encouraging campus authorities to set up selfie points of PM Modi and urging students and visitors to share them on social media platforms will pose academic challenges and have an adverse impact on the students.”
He further expressed regret in the BJP’s approach, accusing it of targeting the youth and trying to attract them ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. “ While the party has its own promotional platforms, it is not appropriate to initiate such activities on college campuses. UGC as an autonomous institution should not sacrifice the educational system to such whims.”
Sawad further warned of launching a student movement if the UGC directive is not withdrawn in order to safeguard the welfare of the students.
